Ontario Research Foundation

The Ontario Research Foundation (ORF) was a prominent independent contract research and development organization based in Mississauga, Ontario. Established in 1928 by the provincial government, it served as a critical bridge between academic discovery and industrial application for over six decades. The organization provided specialized scientific services across diverse sectors, including biotechnology, environmental chemistry, materials engineering, and toxicology. In 1987, it was rebranded as ORTECH International to reflect its expanding global consultancy role before being privatized in 1993. Its legacy continues through various successor entities that acquired its specialized laboratory divisions, particularly in the fields of environmental testing and materials science.
