Company intelligence / Profile preview
Onyx Pharmaceuticals was a leading biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing and commercializing innovative therapies for cancer patients. The company achieved significant success with the development of Kyprolis (carfilzomib), a highly selective proteasome inhibitor approved for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Onyx also co-developed Nexavar (sorafenib) with Bayer, which became a standard of care for renal cell and hepatocellular carcinomas. Additionally, the company's collaboration with Bayer led to the approval of Stivarga (regorafenib) for colorectal cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. In 2013, Onyx was acquired by Amgen for approximately $10.4 billion, representing one of the largest biotech acquisitions at the time. The company's legacy continues through its approved therapies and its foundational work in kinase and proteasome inhibition.
