Onyx Pharmaceuticals was a prominent biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development and commercialization of targeted cancer therapies. The company achieved significant commercial success with Kyprolis (carfilzomib), a next-generation proteasome inhibitor approved for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Onyx also co-developed and shared profits for several major oncology drugs through strategic partnerships, most notably Nexavar (sorafenib) and Stivarga (regorafenib) with Bayer, and palbociclib with Pfizer. In 2013, the company was acquired by Amgen for approximately $10.4 billion, marking one of the largest biotech acquisitions at the time and integrating its robust oncology portfolio into Amgen's pipeline.
