Open Biosystems

Open Biosystems was a life science company specializing in genomic research tools, particularly RNA interference (RNAi) and gene expression resources. The company provided extensive libraries of shRNA, cDNA, and ORF clones to the global research community, facilitating functional genomics studies. Founded in 2001 and based in Huntsville, Alabama, it became a leading provider of viral-based delivery systems for gene knockdown. In 2008, the company was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific for approximately $42 million. Following the acquisition, its products were integrated into the Thermo Scientific Dharmacon and Molecular Biology portfolios.
