OpenBiome Foundation

OpenBiome is a nonprofit organization that operates as the first public stool bank to provide safe access to fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) therapies. Founded in 2012, the organization provides rigorously screened, ready-to-use intestinal microbiota preparations to clinicians for treating recurrent Clostridioides difficile infections. In addition to clinical supply, OpenBiome functions as a research accelerator, supporting dozens of clinical trials exploring the microbiome's impact on diverse conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and malnutrition. The foundation recently transitioned its large-scale clinical manufacturing operations to the University of Minnesota to focus on long-term research, global health, and equity initiatives. It remains a critical infrastructure provider for the microbiome research community through its data and sample repositories.
