Ophthalmological Association Edelweiss was a clinical trial sponsor primarily active in Romania and Germany during the late 2000s. The organization focused on investigating the intravitreal use of bevacizumab (Avastin) for ophthalmic conditions such as proliferative diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. It gained significant controversy following allegations of conducting unauthorized and unethical clinical trials in Romania, which were featured in a 2012 ARTE documentary. The association was linked to Dr. Narcisa Ianopol and was reportedly used as a vehicle for clinical research that lacked proper regulatory oversight from the Romanian National Medicines Agency. It has been inactive and untraceable since approximately 2011.
