Company intelligence / Profile preview
Opthea is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative therapies for retinal diseases, particularly wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). The company's lead asset, sozinibercept (OPT-302), is a first-in-class VEGF-C/D trap protein designed to be used in combination with standard-of-care VEGF-A inhibitors. By targeting VEGF-C and VEGF-D, which are upregulated when VEGF-A is suppressed, Opthea aims to provide superior vision gains compared to monotherapy. Sozinibercept is currently in two global Phase 3 clinical trials, ShORe and COAST, with top-line data expected in 2025. Headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, Opthea is dual-listed on the ASX and NASDAQ.
