Optopics was a pharmaceutical company specializing in the development and manufacture of ophthalmic products, including prescription and over-the-counter eye care solutions. Based in Fairton, New Jersey, the company produced a wide range of diagnostic stains, ointments, and surgical aids used by eye care professionals. It was acquired by Akorn in 1998 to expand Akorn's ophthalmic product portfolio and manufacturing capacity. Following the acquisition, Optopics operated as a subsidiary and manufacturing facility until the eventual dissolution of Akorn's operations in 2023. The company was known for its focus on niche ophthalmic generics and diagnostic tools. Its product line included well-known diagnostic agents like Rose Bengal and Fluorescein Sodium.
