Company intelligence / Profile preview
Orchard Therapeutics is a global gene therapy leader specializing in the development of ex vivo autologous hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) gene therapies for rare and life-threatening diseases. The company's approach involves genetically modifying a patient's own stem cells outside the body using lentiviral vectors to insert functional copies of missing or faulty genes before reintroducing them into the patient. Their lead product, Libmeldy (atidarsagene autotemcel), is the first approved therapy for metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) in Europe and the United States (marketed as Lenmeldy). Orchard's pipeline extends into other neurometabolic disorders, primary immune deficiencies, and larger indications like frontotemporal dementia. In early 2024, the company was acquired by Kyowa Kirin to accelerate the commercialization and development of its gene therapy portfolio.
