Orexigen Therapeutics was a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of pharmaceutical products for the treatment of obesity. The company's primary product was Contrave (naltrexone hydrochloride and bupropion hydrochloride), an FDA-approved oral medication for chronic weight management in adults. Orexigen operated an international hub in Ireland to manage its global commercialization efforts outside of the United States. Following financial difficulties, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2018, and its assets, including the rights to Contrave, were subsequently acquired by Nalpropion Pharmaceuticals.
