Overview

Organon BioSciences was the healthcare division of AkzoNobel, comprising Organon (human pharmaceuticals), Intervet (animal health), Diosynth (active pharmaceutical ingredients), and Nobilon (vaccines). The company was a global leader in reproductive medicine and fertility, known for blockbuster products such as NuvaRing and Follistim, while also maintaining a significant presence in anesthesia and neuroscience. In 2007, Schering-Plough acquired Organon BioSciences for approximately $14.4 billion to strengthen its late-stage pipeline and diversify into women's health. Following the 2009 merger between Schering-Plough and Merck & Co., these assets were integrated into Merck's global operations. In 2021, Merck spun off its women's health and legacy brands into a new independent company named Organon & Co.
