Organon Teknika

Organon Teknika was a prominent life sciences company specializing in anesthesiology and in vitro diagnostics. As a subsidiary of Akzo Nobel, it gained international recognition for developing essential neuromuscular blocking agents such as Norcuron and Zemuron. The company also played a significant role in the diagnostics field, particularly with its Nucleic Acid Sequence Based Amplification (NASBA) technology used for detecting HIV-1 and other pathogens. In 2001, the diagnostics division was acquired by bioMérieux, while the pharmaceutical operations were eventually integrated into Merck & Co. following a series of mergers. The company was headquartered in Boxtel, Netherlands, and maintained a significant presence in Durham, North Carolina.
