Overview
The metra® device has demonstrated significant improvements in transplant outcomes. Clinical trials showed a reduction in early allograft dysfunction from ~30% to ~10% compared to static cold storage. A European randomized trial found a halving of discarded livers and a >20% increase in transplanted livers using the metra®. Over 5,000 transplants have been supported globally with regulatory approvals in the US, Europe, Canada, and Australia. FDA clearance was recently obtained for first-in-human studies combining metra® with genetically engineered porcine livers.
