OrthoClear

OrthoClear was a medical device company that developed and marketed clear aligner systems for orthodontic treatment. Founded in 2004 by Zia Chishti, the co-founder of Align Technology, the company sought to compete directly with the Invisalign system by offering similar transparent, removable dental braces. OrthoClear utilized advanced 3D digital modeling and manufacturing to produce custom aligners designed to correct various forms of malocclusion. The company's operations were primarily based in the United States with significant manufacturing facilities located in Pakistan. Following a series of intense legal battles over patent infringement and trade secrets with Align Technology, OrthoClear reached a settlement in 2006. As part of this agreement, the company ceased all global operations and transferred its intellectual property to Align Technology in exchange for a cash payment.
