Ortoviva was a specialized medical technology company based in Germany that focused on the development of innovative spinal implant systems. The company is best known for the Ortoviva system, a standalone device designed for anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) procedures. This system integrated an interbody cage with screw fixation, providing immediate stability and promoting long-term bone fusion for patients with degenerative disc disease. By offering a low-profile design and simplified surgical technique, Ortoviva's technology addressed key challenges in spinal reconstruction. In 2008, the company was acquired by Zimmer Holdings, which is now part of Zimmer Biomet. The acquisition allowed Zimmer to expand its presence in the growing motion preservation and spinal fusion markets.
