OSi Specialties was a leading global manufacturer of specialty silicones and organofunctional silanes, serving the healthcare, personal care, and industrial sectors. Spun off from Union Carbide in 1993, the company became a dominant player in silicone surfactants and silane coupling agents used in medical device coatings and cosmetics. It was acquired by Witco Corporation in 1995 for approximately $480 million and subsequently passed through Crompton and GE Advanced Materials. Today, its legacy products and technologies are integrated into Momentive Performance Materials. OSi's contributions to the life sciences were primarily as a high-tier material supplier for medical-grade silicones and cosmetic formulations.
