Company intelligence / Profile preview
OsteoCorp was an emerging pharmaceutical company based in the San Francisco Bay Area that focused on developing a novel class of drugs known as "bone beta-blockers" for the treatment of osteoporosis. The company's research was based on the pioneering work of its chief scientific advisor, Dr. Gerard Karsenty, who discovered that the sympathetic nervous system plays a critical role in regulating bone mass through beta-2 adrenergic receptors on osteoblasts. By targeting these receptors, OsteoCorp aimed to develop therapies that could both stimulate bone formation and inhibit bone resorption. Although the company gained significant attention in the late 2000s for its innovative approach to bone health, it is no longer active in its original form.
