Otologic Pharmaceuticals was a clinical-stage biotechnology company dedicated to developing pharmacological treatments for hearing loss and related inner ear disorders. The company's primary focus was on its lead candidate, HPN-07, a combination therapy designed to protect the ear from noise-induced damage by scavenging reactive oxygen species. Spun out from the Hough Ear Institute and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, the company targeted conditions such as acute acoustic trauma and tinnitus. The therapeutic approach utilized a novel nitrone-based antioxidant to prevent permanent cellular damage in the cochlea following exposure to loud noise. In 2016, the company was acquired by Oblato, Inc., a subsidiary of GtreeBNT (now HLB Therapeutics). Following the acquisition, the lead compound has also been investigated for oncology indications under the name OKN-007.
