OvaScience

OvaScience developed proprietary fertility treatments based on the discovery of EggPC cells—immature egg precursor cells found in adult ovaries. Its lead service "Augment" involved mitochondrial transfer from these precursor cells into a woman's own eggs during IVF to improve fertilization and pregnancy rates. Another program "OvaTure" aimed to mature new eggs from these precursor cells entirely outside the body. The company’s claims were controversial and not approved for use in the United States; Augment was available only through select clinics abroad before operations ceased following a reverse merger with Millendo Therapeutics in 2018.
