Owlstone Nanotech (now Owlstone Inc.) is a chemical sensing company that developed the Field Asymmetric Ion Mobility Spectrometry (FAIMS) technology. The company's core technology is a microchip-based chemical sensor capable of detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with high sensitivity and selectivity. In 2016, the company spun out Owlstone Medical to focus on healthcare applications, specifically the "Breath Biopsy" platform for non-invasive disease diagnosis. This platform is being used to develop tests for the early detection of lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and liver disease, as well as for patient stratification in respiratory conditions like asthma. Owlstone partners with major pharmaceutical companies and research institutions to integrate its technology into clinical trials and diagnostic workflows.
