Oxford Ancestors

Oxford Ancestors was a pioneer in the consumer genomics industry, specializing in DNA-based genealogical research. Founded in 2000 by Professor Bryan Sykes of the University of Oxford, the company provided services such as mitochondrial DNA and Y-chromosome testing to help individuals trace their ancestral maternal and paternal lineages. It was one of the first companies to offer direct-to-consumer genetic testing, leveraging research popularized in Sykes' book "The Seven Daughters of Eve." The company's services allowed customers to identify which of the prehistoric "clan mothers" they were descended from. Following the death of its founder, the company ceased operations and was formally dissolved in late 2021.
