Pacesetter Systems

Pacesetter Systems was a pioneering medical technology company specializing in the development and manufacture of implantable cardiac rhythm management devices. Founded in 1969 by entrepreneur Alfred Mann, the company became a global leader in the pacemaker industry, introducing significant innovations in pulse generator longevity and programmability. The firm was acquired by Siemens in 1985 and subsequently sold to St. Jude Medical in 1994 for approximately $500 million. Its extensive portfolio of cardiac pacing and defibrillation technologies was eventually integrated into Abbott Laboratories following Abbott's acquisition of St. Jude Medical in 2017. Pacesetter is historically recognized for its critical role in advancing the reliability and sophistication of modern cardiac care.
