Company intelligence / Profile preview
Pacific Beach BioSciences was a development-stage biopharmaceutical company based in San Diego, California, specializing in the discovery and development of anti-infective agents. The company's primary focus was the development of PB-101, a next-generation injectable cephalosporin antibiotic designed to target multidrug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria, including MRSA. In 2007, Pacific Beach BioSciences was acquired by Forest Laboratories for approximately $150 million in cash. The lead asset, subsequently known as ceftaroline fosamil (Teflaro), received FDA approval in 2010 for the treatment of community-acquired bacterial pneumonia and acute bacterial skin infections. Today, the product is part of the AbbVie portfolio following a series of industry mergers involving Forest, Actavis, and Allergan.
