Pacific Health Research Institute

Pacific Health Research Institute (PHRI) was a prominent non-profit research organization based in Honolulu, Hawaii, specializing in clinical and epidemiological research. Founded in 1960, the institute gained international acclaim for its long-term longitudinal studies, including the Honolulu Heart Program and the Honolulu-Asia Aging Study. These studies provided critical insights into chronic diseases and aging, particularly within Asian-American populations. PHRI's research portfolio primarily focused on cardiovascular health, diabetes, and neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease. The institute operated as an independent entity until 2010, when it merged with the Veterans Health Research Institute to form the Pacific Health Research and Education Institute (PHREI).
