Painceptor

PainCeptor Pharma was a Canadian biopharmaceutical company founded in 2004 through the merger of academic spin-offs Antalium and NeuroCeptor. The company specialized in developing peripherally-acting small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of chronic and acute pain, aiming to avoid the central nervous system side effects associated with traditional analgesics. Its research focused on novel targets including the acid-sensing ion channel (ASIC) family and the nerve growth factor (NGF) pathway. The lead candidate, PPC-5650, was an ASIC1a antagonist that advanced into Phase 1 clinical trials. Despite significant venture capital backing and a strategic partnership with NeuroSearch A/S, the company's programs were eventually discontinued. PainCeptor is currently inactive, with its primary drug development projects halted by 2016.
