Palingen was a pioneering biotechnology company focused on the field of cardiac regeneration through the induction of "palingenesis," a biological process where mature cells revert to a progenitor-like state to repair damaged tissue. Founded by leading scientists from the Gladstone Institutes, the company's core mission was to harness cellular reprogramming to convert resident cardiac fibroblasts into functional cardiomyocytes in situ. By reactivating developmental gene programs using small molecules and genetic factors, Palingen aimed to develop novel therapies for heart failure and myocardial infarction. Although the company is no longer active as an independent entity, its foundational research and intellectual property served as the critical seed for the formation of Tenaya Therapeutics.
