PAMI Coordinating Center

The PAMI Coordinating Center was a specialized clinical research organization and academic hub based at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. It was established to lead and manage the Primary Angioplasty in Myocardial Infarction (PAMI) series of clinical trials, which are among the most influential studies in the history of interventional cardiology. Under the leadership of prominent cardiologists including Dr. Cindy Grines and Dr. Gregg Stone, the center coordinated multi-center international trials that compared primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with thrombolytic therapy. The center's work, particularly the landmark PAMI-1 and Senior PAMI trials, provided the definitive evidence that mechanical reperfusion is superior to pharmacological fibrinolysis for treating acute myocardial infarction. These findings fundamentally altered global treatment guidelines and established the current standard of care for heart attack patients.
