Pan American Laboratories was a specialty pharmaceutical company based in Covington, Louisiana, that focused on the pediatric and primary care markets. The company specialized in the commercialization of branded prescription products, particularly in the respiratory and anti-infective therapeutic areas. Its portfolio featured products such as the antibiotic Cedax (ceftibuten) and several cough and cold treatments. In March 2010, Pan American Laboratories was acquired by Pernix Therapeutics for approximately $26 million in a combination of cash and stock. This acquisition significantly expanded Pernix's sales force and product offerings in the United States.
