Provides comprehensive mental health, general hospital, geriatric long-term care and disability services to over one million people in the Barcelona metropolitan area. It integrates clinical practice with research and education in collaboration with the University of Barcelona. The institution has specialized nodes such as a national brain bank for psychiatric disorders and develops innovative healthcare models including telemedicine and home care for severe disabilities. Research focuses on epidemiology of mental health disorders, cognitive rehabilitation, aging-related health issues, patient safety in surgery, pharmacological monitoring and nursing practice improvement.
