Partnership for Prescription Assistance

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA) was a major healthcare initiative created by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) to help patients without prescription drug coverage access the medicines they need. The program acted as a centralized clearinghouse, connecting uninsured and underinsured individuals with more than 475 public and private patient assistance programs. By providing a single point of entry, PPA streamlined the process of finding and applying for free or nearly free brand-name and generic medications. In 2019, PhRMA transitioned the PPA into the Medicine Assistance Tool (MAT), a more advanced search engine designed to provide patients, caregivers, and providers with even greater transparency regarding drug costs and assistance options.
