PathWork Informatics

Pathwork Informatics was a molecular diagnostics company that specialized in gene expression-based tests for oncology. The company's primary product, the Pathwork Tissue of Origin Test, was a pioneering diagnostic tool and the first of its kind to receive FDA clearance. This test utilized a proprietary microarray-based platform to compare the genetic signature of a patient's tumor against a database of 15 common tumor types. By identifying the site of origin for cancers that were otherwise difficult to classify, the technology helped clinicians tailor treatment strategies for patients with cancer of unknown primary (CUP). Pathwork Informatics was headquartered in Redwood City, California, and was backed by several prominent venture capital firms. In 2013, the company's assets were acquired by Response Genetics.
