PAX Therapeutics

PAX Therapeutics is a private U.S. biotechnology company developing localized gene therapies to improve healing of tendon and ligament injuries in humans and animals. Its lead program, PAX-001, is an adeno-associated virus type 2 (AAV2)-based gene therapy designed for local delivery during surgery or by injection to drive temporary expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and improve vascularization and Type I collagen formation. The company is focused initially on flexor tendon injuries of the hand, with planned expansion into additional tendon and ligament indications and veterinary use. PAX Therapeutics was spun out of research at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown University-affiliated labs and appears to be preparing for first-in-human clinical testing following completion of preclinical and IND-enabling work.
