Pechiney was a major French industrial conglomerate that held a dominant global position in the aluminum and packaging sectors. While not a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company in terms of drug discovery, Pechiney was a critical player in the healthcare industry through its Pechiney Plastic Packaging (PPP) division, which specialized in high-performance flexible packaging, blister foils, and tubes for pharmaceutical products. The company's technical expertise in barrier materials and material science was essential for ensuring the stability and safety of various medical formulations. Pechiney was acquired by the Canadian firm Alcan in 2003, and its healthcare packaging assets were later integrated into Amcor following subsequent divestitures.
