PeriCor Therapeutics was a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the development of acadesine, a first-in-class adenosine regulator. The company's primary mission was to improve outcomes for patients undergoing major cardiovascular surgeries by preventing ischemia-reperfusion injury. Its lead candidate, acadesine, was evaluated in the large-scale Phase 3 RED-CABG clinical trial to reduce complications following coronary artery bypass graft surgery. However, the trial was terminated early in 2011 due to a lack of efficacy, leading to the cessation of the drug's development. The company was largely built around this single asset and has been inactive since the trial's failure.
