Company intelligence / Profile preview
American Pharmaceutical Partners (APP) was a leading specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development, manufacture, and marketing of injectable pharmaceutical products, particularly in oncology, anti-infectives, and critical care. The company was notably responsible for the development of Abraxane, a blockbuster nanoparticle albumin-bound chemotherapy agent used to treat various cancers. Founded by Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, APP operated a significant generic injectables business alongside its proprietary research division. In 2006, APP merged with its parent company, American BioScience, to form Abraxis BioScience, which was subsequently acquired by Celgene and later became part of Bristol Myers Squibb.
