Overview
Pharmacia was a major international pharmaceutical company with a strong legacy in both small molecules and biologics. It developed several landmark drugs including dextran-based plasma substitutes, salazopyrin for rheumatic diseases/ulcerative colitis, doxorubicin for cancer therapy (via Farmitalia acquisition), Xalatan for glaucoma, and celecoxib ("Celebrex") for arthritis. The company was acquired by Pfizer in 2003[1][2][5].
