Pharmacon

Pharmacon, historically known as Pharmacon-St. Petersburg, was a prominent Russian pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Saint Petersburg with a legacy dating back to the early 20th century. The company was a key player in the Soviet and Russian pharmaceutical industries, specializing in the production of essential small molecule drugs, including the widely used antiviral Umifenovir (Arbidol) and the benzodiazepine Phenazepam. Pharmacon operated significant manufacturing facilities and was instrumental in the development and commercialization of several original Soviet-era medications. In 2005, the company was acquired by the Russian pharmaceutical giant Sintez, and its operations were subsequently integrated into the broader Binnopharm Group, marking the end of its independent existence.
