Pharmecosse

Pharmecosse was a Scottish biotechnology company dedicated to the development of novel therapies for the prevention and reduction of scarring. Founded in 2008 by Dr. Neil Murray, the company focused on repurposing existing compounds for dermatological applications, with a primary emphasis on the anti-scarring properties of low-dose insulin. Its lead candidate, a topical or injectable insulin formulation, reached Phase 2 clinical trials for the prevention of excessive scarring in patients undergoing breast surgery. Despite promising early research and patent filings for insulin and PPAR agonists in wound healing, the company was dissolved in 2018.
