PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing and commercializing novel therapies for cardiovascular and orphan diseases. The company's core strength was its proprietary Elastin-like Polypeptide (ELP) technology platform, which allowed for the engineering of biologics with extended half-lives and controlled-release properties. Its lead candidate, bentracimab (PB2452), was a human monoclonal antibody fragment designed as a specific reversal agent for the antiplatelet drug ticagrelor. Despite advancing bentracimab into Phase 3 clinical trials, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late 2022 following a financing and co-development dispute with its partner, SFJ Pharmaceuticals. In early 2023, SFJ Pharmaceuticals acquired the rights to bentracimab, effectively concluding PhaseBio's independent operations.
