Phytelligence

Phytelligence was an agricultural biotechnology company that specialized in a proprietary non-soil-based micropropagation process called MultiPHY. Spun out of Washington State University, the company provided fruit tree growers with genetically confirmed, virus-free plants that grew significantly faster and had higher survival rates than traditional nursery trees. Their technology aimed to reduce the time required to bring new fruit varieties to market by bypassing traditional soil-based nursery cycles. The company's platform allowed for the rapid scaling of high-demand cultivars like apples, cherries, and grapes. However, following a high-profile legal dispute with Washington State University over the rights to the Cosmic Crisp apple variety, the company was declared insolvent and entered receivership in 2019. Its assets and technology licenses were subsequently acquired by NuPhY Inc. in 2020 to continue the development of the MultiPHY technology.
