Phyto-Source was a specialized manufacturing joint venture focused on the production of wood-derived phytosterols for the global functional food and nutraceutical markets. The company operated a state-of-the-art facility in Pasadena, Texas, where it produced Reducol, a proprietary cholesterol-lowering ingredient extracted from tall oil. Phyto-Source's products were designed to be incorporated into various food matrices, including dairy, spreads, and baked goods, to help consumers manage heart health. In 2009, the company was acquired by Cognis, which was subsequently integrated into BASF, making the Pasadena site a key part of BASF's global nutrition and health infrastructure.
