PhytoPharmacon

PhytoPharmacon was a biotechnology company specializing in the discovery and development of novel therapeutic compounds derived from natural products and botanical sources. Based in North Carolina, the company utilized a proprietary high-throughput screening platform to identify bioactive small molecules within its extensive library of plant extracts. Its research efforts primarily targeted complex diseases such as cancer, inflammatory disorders, and viral infections. In April 2002, PhytoPharmacon was acquired by the global contract research organization PPD (Pharmaceutical Product Development) to strengthen PPD's internal drug discovery and development capabilities. Following the acquisition, PhytoPharmacon's assets and expertise were integrated into PPD's Discovery Sciences division.
