PIQUR Therapeutics was a Swiss clinical-stage biotech company spun out from the University of Basel in August 2011. It focused on developing innovative anti-cancer drugs based on dual inhibition of lipid kinases, specifically the clinically validated targets PI3K and mTOR. Its lead compound, PQR309/bimiralisib, showed promising preclinical results with blood-brain barrier penetration and antitumor activity. The first-in-human Phase I trial established safety and maximum tolerated dose; subsequent studies included multiple Phase I/II trials as monotherapy or combination therapy. The company also explored dermatology/genetic disease applications but ultimately ceased operations.
