Pittsburgh NMR Institute

The Pittsburgh NMR Institute was a prominent non-profit research organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, specializing in the development and application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies. Established in 1986 through a collaboration between the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, the institute served as a hub for advanced diagnostic imaging research. It provided high-field imaging and spectroscopy services to support clinical and basic science investigations in areas such as oncology, neuroscience, and cardiology. The institute played a critical role in the evolution of MRI techniques before its functions were eventually integrated into the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Radiology and the Magnetic Resonance Research Center.
