PlasmaSol

PlasmaSol was a medical technology company that pioneered the use of non-thermal, atmospheric pressure plasma for the sterilization and disinfection of medical equipment. Founded as a spin-off from the Stevens Institute of Technology, the company developed a proprietary technology that allowed for the rapid decontamination of heat-sensitive surgical instruments without leaving toxic residues. Its primary product focus was on providing a safer and faster alternative to traditional ethylene oxide or autoclave sterilization methods. In December 2005, PlasmaSol was acquired by Stryker Corporation for approximately $17.5 million plus future milestones. The acquisition integrated PlasmaSol's innovative plasma technology into Stryker's MedSurg division, specifically enhancing its infection control and sterilization offerings.
