Platco Technologies was a South African biotechnology company specializing in the development of next-generation platinum-based anti-cancer therapeutics. The company leveraged advanced platinum group metals chemistry to design novel compounds intended to provide superior efficacy and reduced toxicity compared to established agents like cisplatin and carboplatin. In 2008, Platco was acquired by Abraxis BioScience alongside its parent company, Shimoda Biotech, to bolster Abraxis's oncology pipeline and integrate its promising pre-clinical assets. Following subsequent acquisitions of Abraxis by Celgene and later Bristol Myers Squibb, Platco's technologies became part of one of the world's largest pharmaceutical portfolios. The company's work was closely integrated with Shimoda's cyclodextrin-based drug delivery technology to enhance the bioavailability of its therapeutic candidates.
