Company intelligence / Profile preview
Platinum Partners Value Arbitrage Fund was the flagship hedge fund managed by Platinum Partners, a New York-based investment firm founded in 2003. The fund specialized in a multi-strategy approach, frequently providing high-interest, asset-based loans to distressed companies in the energy, healthcare, and life sciences sectors. It gained notoriety for its involvement in complex financing structures and for maintaining high reported returns despite market volatility. In 2016, the fund's operations ceased following a federal indictment of its executives for orchestrating a $1 billion investment fraud. Prosecutors described the fund as a "Ponzi-like" scheme where new investor money was used to pay out redemptions while illiquid assets were significantly overvalued. The fund is currently defunct and remains under the control of court-appointed liquidators.
