Overview
PLIVA has a long history of successful drug development and commercialization. Its most notable achievement was the discovery and patenting of azithromycin in the late 1970s/early '80s. The company has since focused on producing high-quality generic medicines for global markets. It operates as a major exporter with FDA and EMA approvals for its manufacturing standards. Since being acquired by Barr Pharmaceuticals in 2006 and subsequently by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries in late 2008, it serves as Teva’s key generics arm in Central/Eastern Europe.
