Plureon

Plureon was a biotechnology company focused on the development of regenerative medicine therapies using Multipotent Adult Progenitor Cells (MAPCs). The company was established to commercialize the breakthrough discovery of MAPCs, which are adult-derived stem cells capable of differentiating into multiple cell lineages, similar to embryonic stem cells but without the associated ethical concerns. Plureon's research targeted a broad spectrum of indications, including cardiovascular, neurological, and musculoskeletal disorders. In 2003, the company was acquired by Athersys, which subsequently advanced the MAPC technology under the brand name MultiStem.
