Plureon was a biotechnology company focused on the development of regenerative medicine therapies using Multipotent Adult Progenitor Cells (MAPCs). The company was established to commercialize the breakthrough discovery of MAPCs, which are adult-derived stem cells capable of differentiating into multiple cell lineages, similar to embryonic stem cells but without the associated ethical concerns. In 2003, the company was acquired by Athersys, which subsequently advanced the MAPC technology under the brand name MultiStem.
