Company intelligence / Profile preview
Polydex Pharmaceuticals was a Canadian-based manufacturer specializing in dextran and its derivatives for both human pharmaceutical and veterinary markets. Its main commercial products were iron dextran (for animal anemia) and dextran sulfate. The company also developed cellulose sulfate gel (“Ushercell”) as an anti-HIV microbicide, which failed in late-stage trials due to lack of efficacy/safety concerns.
